For over 60 years, A&G Engineering has been one of Australia’s most trusted names in stainless steel fabrication. A multi-generation, family-owned company with a national footprint and a reputation for delivering world-class manufacturing outcomes, A&G operates with the strength and structure of a corporate, while staying true to its regional roots and values.
With a workforce of more than 150 highly skilled professionals across multiple sites, A&G Engineering designs and manufactures large-scale stainless-steel vessels and process equipment for the wine, dairy, water, petrochemical, edible oils, and brewing industries. Their approach balances certainty and risk management with engineering excellence, backed by deep knowledge, outstanding people, and a culture of quality.
Chris Hart: From Apprentice to Foreman
Chris Hart is the Machine Shop Foreman at A&G Engineering’s Griffith site, a position he’s held after working his way through the ranks over the past decade. “I’ve been here 10 years. I started out on the tools and moved my way up. I did my trade as a fitter and turner at a local agricultural business, then came over to A&G and never looked back” he said.
Today, Chris leads a tight-knit, multi-skilled machining team. “We run CNC lathes, machine centres, along with a range of manual machines; everything you need for high-performance stainless fabrication,” he explains. “My role is to make sure the right machining jobs are happening at the right time, with the right quality, and without delays. I’m managing the production flow, the materials, the team, and making sure what we promise is what we deliver.”
Diversifying Beyond Wine
That’s no small feat. While A&G’s legacy is built on wine fermentation and storage tanks, today the scope of work is far more diverse. “Today, we do so much more,” Chris says. “Now we’re doing dairy, edible oils, water, petrochemicals, beer. We’ve adapted to meet the market. We’ve also have a huge amount of work coming through for Flavourtech.”
Flavourtech, a sister company to A&G Engineering, manufactures high-end extraction and evaporation equipment for global food and beverage brands. “Flavourtech is amazing,” Chris adds. “I’ve worked on gear that goes to Japan, China, the US—systems for coffee, tea, aroma recovery, de-alcoholisation, flavour extraction.”
That level of engineering sophistication brings challenges and opportunity. “When a tricky job comes in, the good thing about A&G is the knowledge base,” Chris explains. “There’s always someone in the business who’s seen something like it before. And if we haven’t, there’s time and support to figure it out properly. Nothing gets thrown in the too-hard basket.”
Engineering Challenges Meet Deep Expertise
Precision and quality are the hallmark of every aspect of Chris’s work. “I focus pretty hard on turnaround times, but I never want to compromise on the quality,” he says. “You can get anyone to do a job that’s just okay. But doing it perfectly; that’s where we stand out. I’d rather take a bit longer and get it right, every time.”
That dedication to doing things properly extends across the team. A&G’s investment in apprenticeships and structured training ensures future talent is equipped with broad, practical skills, not just a narrow set of tasks. “When I did my apprenticeship, I just learned to fix farm equipment. That was it,” says Chris. “Here, our apprentices rotate through every shed. They do tanks, mild steel, stainless, pipework, walkways—everything. By the time they qualify, they’ve got a proper handle on the trade. And we get to see what they’re good at.”
That matters in a workshop where planning and adaptability go hand in hand. “It’s a lot of being proactive,” he adds. “You can’t expect a first-year apprentice to do the same as a qualified fitter, so you’ve got to plan around your people. We make sure the material and tooling is sorted well before the job hits the floor. That way, transport delays or supply chain issues don’t impact the timeline.”
A Workplace that Feels like Family
Culture plays a big part too. “It’s a family business, and you feel that,” Chris reflects. “You’re not just a number here. The boss comes out and says good morning. You feel valued. It’s a welcoming place to work, and they make that known.”
Collaboration across departments is key to keeping projects moving. “Sales, drafting, supply; they all work transparently. No one’s guarding their turf. We’re all trying to make the customer happy and deliver work that makes us proud.”
Asked why a new customer should choose A&G, Chris doesn’t hesitate. “We take pride in what we do. We care about getting it right. We’ve got the team, the tools, the systems, and the experience to deliver top-tier fabrication. And if something’s not right, we fix it here, not when it’s 2,000 kilometres away.”
A&G Engineering’s capabilities are backed by a strong inventory through its sister business, A&G Stainless Steel, and an integrated national team of professionals with hands-on manufacturing experience. From tanks and vessels to high-tech process systems, the company’s reputation for precision, reliability and client care makes it a standout partner in the Australian manufacturing sector.
“If you’re looking for a stainless-steel fabrication partner who values your time, your product, and your trust,” Chris says, “we’re the right team.”
